Yesterday was September 11th and seeing as how we live in New York City now I wanted to go to the memorial. There was no tickets available because, after some searching, I'm pretty sure that only family of the victims are allowed in on Sept. 11th for the reading of the names and such.
This left the Tribute in Lights which I had wanted to see regardless. The lights turn on at dusk and stay on until midnight. We ended up getting down there around 11pm.
Pictures don't really do the lights justice. They are pretty freakin' cool. I am glad we were able to go.
This shot has the new Tower One on the lower left. All the little specs in the lights are birds. There are tons of them that swarm the lights every year.
The lights were best from the corner of West St and Morris St. Here is David with the baby.
And here is my favorite picture from the night. David feeding the baby with the lights behind them. Such a cool moment to remember.
I've been to the memorial a few times and it is an amazing place. You can definitely feel the presence of those lost. I think the fountains in the footprints of the towers is so poignant and moving. You can't help but reflect on the magnitude of that day when you see it. My heart goes out to all those who lost family members. Please know I will never forget the horrific and terrible scenes of that day, but more importantly I will never forget the heroic bravery people showed their neighbors, friends, coworkers and complete strangers.
